Welcome! Muldsigaba means “to communicate” in Kogui language. This website is an invitation for dialogue between indigenous communities interested in communicating with the world and people or institutions who would be interested in supporting indigenous communication endeavor. This project sprouts from Colombia and more specifically the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta where we are based (Intermundos) and where the indigenous communication group Zhigoneshi gave us the inspiration to create this blog.

As indigenous people continue to see their territories invaded and the earth destroyed , many of them have felt a necessity to reach out to the world in order to share their visions and stories. Unfortunately most of the time they do not know how they could do this because they lack the tools or knowledge to do so. Many times their intent towards communication are sabotaged because there are those who prefer that indigenous people remain in silence. On the other hand there are many people around the world that are curious about indigenous people and would be interested in working with them, and that would be willing to support indigenous communication initiatives by developing projects such as; workshop exchanges, web platform development, creation of new tools etc. Unfortunatly these people do no not know where to start as they do not know indigenous people or what they might need or want. Therefor the importance o f the encounter, but physical encounters aren’t always possible, these are dificult to make a reality because of distances, the cost of travel, the difficulty of obtaining visas and the lack of ESPACIOS for encounters.

Today, thanks to the Internet, it is possible to meet and share ideas in other ways; through chats, email, websites, virtual communities, wikis, blogs etc. In the case of muldsigaba, we have decided to create a blog and offer it as a space for refection on ideas related to communication and technology within the context and from the experiences of indigenous people. For example, we are interested in themes such as; How have indigenous people integrated contemporary communication practices within their culture? What are the millinery and traditional forms of communication? What indigenous groups are represented on the world wide web? Where are the indigenous communication centers located? What do indigenous people want to say? With what objective in mind? What do they need? Which groups have had positive experiences? We are also interested in finding out about non indigenous experiences that might be useful in the indigenous context; People with ideas and suggestions, information on new tools and techniques etc.

Through this blog we hope to make visible isolated experimental and indigenous comunication processes and generate interaction between these and with third parties. We also hope that a rich diversity of information will be accumulated within the blog which will serve as a starting point for new ideas and projects. As an ultimate goal, we hope that these exchanges will result in the formation of teams that would integrate experts in fields such as web development, programing, mapping, electronics, communication, art etc. together with indigenous groups so that they may firstly exchange knowledges and secondly create platforms and or actions.

This blog is but a first tool towards reaching these objectives and we welcome any suggestions and support for the development of the blog or initial exchange process in itself.

Bienvenidos! Muldisigaba significa comunicar en el idioma Kogui. Esta pagina es una invitación para abrir un dialogo entre indígenas interesados en comunicarse con el mundo y las personas que podrían estar interesados en asesorar o apoyar o desarrollar plataformas o proyectos de comunicación para grupos indígenas. Este proyecto parte de Colombia y en especifico desde la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, donde estamos localizados (Intermundos) y donde las conversaciones con el grupo de comunicación Zigoneshi nos dio la inspiración para crear este blog.

Muchas veces los indígenas desean comunicarse pero no saben como, carecen de las herramientas o los conocimiento necesarios, ha veces también son saboteados porque hay otros que prefieren que los indígenas queden en silencio…Por el otro lado hay muchas persona al rededor del mundo con el deseo de acercarse a los indígenas, de aprender de ellos y que están dispuestos a apoyar pero no saben como ni que es lo que los grupos indígenas quieren o necesitan. Entonces la importancia del encuentro, pero la reunión física no siempre es posible, se complica por las distancias, los costos de viajar y la falta de sitios de encuentros.

Hoy día con el espacio virtual que es el Internet es posible encontrarnos y compartir ideas de otra manera, por eso hemos creado este blog, para que se convierta en un espacio donde las personas interesadas puedan publicar ideas acerca de la comunicación y la tecnología desde la experiencia de los indígenas. Por ejemplo, nos interesa saber: Como integran los indígenas las nuevas tecnologías a su cultura? Cuales son las formas de comunicación milenaria? Que grupos están representados en Internet? Donde están los centros de comunicación de indígenas? Quienes se quieren comunicar? Que quieren decir? Con que fin? Que hace falta? Quien ha tenido una experiencia fructuosa? Y también nos interesa aprender de otras experiencias que nos puedan aportar ideas, por ejemplo: Que se podría recomendar? Que técnicas? Que herramientas? Etc.

Con este blog esperamos visibilizar procesos aislados y posibilitar que interactuen entre si. También el objetivo es reunir información sobre los procesos, las carencias existentes, fuerzas inesperadas, conceptos nuevos, conceptos milenarios y evidenciar este conjunto colectivo como un proceso único. En ultimas sonamos que este blog resultara en la conformación de equipos de trabajo donde expertos en desarrollo web o otros aspectos de la comunicación contemporánea (o arte) trabajen con grupos indígenas para llevar acabo plataformas o acciones que logren los objetivos de comunicar con el mundo.

El mismo desarrollo de este proyecto esta abierto a sugerencias para la mejoría del flujo de trabajo que se quiere llevar acabo. Gracias.
